Hiking and treking activities at Tatai Resort and Marina

We offer a varied programme of walking tours from an easy and pleasant stroll through a typical Cambodian village all the way to full on treking where you need to carve your way through the dense bamboo forest.

The village walks that we offer you are gentle strolls and are suitable for all levels of fitness and ages, however, hiking tours are only suitable for those that can easily walk a few miles up and down hills and are sure of foot.

Talk to our knowledgable guides and choose from the following seven superb experiences:

Tatai & Anlong Vak Village Walk

Easy | 2hrs
$11.50
Min 3 Adults
Start: 08:30

Once a small hamlet & now a popular tourist attraction, Tatai is fast becoming an established tourist location in its own right.

Tatai, like most of the villages in Cambodia, lacks the necessary funding and support from Central Government to provide the simple things that we take for granted - sanitation, running water, power, schooling and education in healthcare are generally to be found wanting.

Consider a momentary diversion to experience true rural life in a typical Cambodian village and see some of the work community donations are put towards.

This activity is a joint business & community fundraiser and profit from this trip supplements English & Computer lessons & supplementary planting of fruit trees at Tatai & Koh Andet schools.

Tatai & Anlong Vak Village Walk

Koh Andet Village Walk

Easy | 3hrs
$15.00
Min 3 Adults
Start: 08:30
Koh Andet Village Walk

Have you ever seen Durian, Mangosteen or Jackfruit being cultivated?

Koh Andet is a small island in the river a short way down the Tatai river and it is here that you can enjoy an easy morning stroll around the island.

Your journey starts as a 30 minute river cruise to Koh Andet, a small island which is home to approximately twelve families with many of the elders being refugees from the Pol Pot Regime. Residents are farmers with smallholdings of durian, mangosteen and jackfruit.

This small community openly welcomes visitors into their homes.

Mangrove Boardwalk

Easy | 3.5 - 4.5hrs
$21.50
Min 3 Adults
Start: 08:00

A short drive of approximately thirty minutes and you arrive at Peam Krasop Wildlife sanctuary and the gateway to the Mangrove boardwalks. This sanctuary boasts a unique mangrove ecosystem consisting of 23,750 hectares and has around 10,000 people living within its borders.

It is at this sanctuary that you can experience the tangled structures and intertwined roots and branches that is unique to the mangrove forest, without having to get your feet wet.

A walk along the boardwalks is an easy, pleasant and peaceful way of getting up close with the alluring mangrove forestation that quite literally surrounds you. There is a viewing tower on the walk that provides a bird's eye view across the forest and it's not just roots and branches; there is every chance you will see some interesting and unusual creatures on your trip around.

This activity is a solo tour but can be undertaken with a specialist guide for a supplement of $8 per head inclusive & includes a 30 minute boat tour around the sanctuary.

Mangrove Boardwalk

Night Walk

Easy | 2hrs
$12.50
Min 2 Adults
Start: 20:00
Night Walk

Yes, the jungle really does come alive at night but with Gee, your guide, to take care of you there really is no need to be concerned and the experience will surely leave you with a long & satisfying memory.

Kouprey, a type of wild oxen, are among the rarest and most elusive species in the Cardamoms while elephant, leopard and tiger also prowl these parts. Although very unlikely to see an elephant or a tiger, there is no predicting what you will see, but there is always something of interest to report back.

The night walk is a gentle saunter around the grounds of Rainbow Lodge (our partner resort) and is tailored to provide the participant with an education of the creatures you will most likely encounter and their importance to the ecosystem. Being at Rainbow Lodge means a short boat journey up the river which is included.

Hike to Tatai Waterfall

Easy | 4hrs
$17.50
Min 2 Adults
Start: 08:00

This short relatively flat hike of approximately 2hrs takes you through secondary scrub, bamboo forest and more open forest as you approach the falls. During the rainy season this hike can take a little longer as bamboo fills with rainwater and can often collapse across the pathways under its own weight.

This hike also takes you through the habitat of a number of animals such as wild pigs, gibbons, macaques, civets & monitor lizard and of course many of the smaller inhabitants amongst a wide variety of flora & fauna.

On reaching the waterfall you have approximately an hour to enjoy the scenery or go for a swim in the river before returning by boat to Tatai.

By prior arrangement it is possible to have Kayaks waiting for those wishing to return independently, there is a service charge of $2.50 per person for this service.

Hike to Tatai Waterfall

Full day Jungle Hike

Moderate | 6 hrs
$22.50
Min 2 Adults
Start: 08:00
Full day jungle trek

After a short cruise to your starting point, you will hike for approximately 2.5 hrs to one of two riverside locations deep within the jungle forestation. At this half way point you will relax for a couple of hours alongside a stunning section of river that is calling out for you to take that much needed swim in its refreshing & clear waters.

After lunch we traverse a ridge towards clearing in the forrest and meadow (Veal Sphao to give its local name). These naturally occurring open areas of the forest are home for a number of special habitats and often you will see unusual looking flowers in blossom.

This is a particularly pleasant spot to take a break before descending to the more open lowlands and your awaiting boat for the short journey back.

Specialist Treking

Moderate | 4 / 8 hrs
$27.50 / 45.50
Min 2 Adults
Start: am / pm

This activity is provided through our partner resort of Rainbow Lodge and requires a short boat trip up the river; once at Rainbow Lodge you'll be introduced to Gee Chartier who will be your guide.

Gee is from the UK and moved to Rainbow Lodge several years ago and has devoted much of his time documenting the flora & fauna in our surrounding part of the jungle. His wealth of knowledge is extensive and his recitals on nature are extremely rewarding.

We offer half and full day excursions ranging from gentle saunters surveying the local habitat to deeper exploration of the surrounding jungle.

Interested participants should register their interest with management who will arrange a private consultation with Gee to identify your specific areas of interest and develop a bespoke tour to suit your expectations.
